Three-year expedition for oceans exploration of ecosystems

Thursday, July 27, 2017 will remain a historic date, as the day M/V Yersin, Francois Fiat’s transoceanic mega-yacht, hoisted anchor in the presence of Prince Albert II, and departed from the Yacht Club of Monaco to start the 3-year exploration voyage.

Monaco Explorations is based on an international and multidisciplinary campaign combining natural and human sciences, descriptions of places and environments that are rarely explored as well as the study of the behavior of the species present, their interactions, ethnology and relationships with the atmosphere and the Earth.

“The Yersin is an exceptional vessel, a boat for cruising also designed for research purposes, and an impressive autonomy of several days or even several months. She keeps alive the tradition of Prince Albert I and Captain Cousteau’s boats and other explorers who left from Monaco.” said HSH Prince Albert II.

The Yersin is a versatile and modular transoceanic ship designed for travel and exploration, offering the scientific community conditions of maximum comfort and safety, carrying the advanced technologies for research and communication.

The vessel, that has a complex laboratory on board, was named in honor of Doctor Alexandre Yersin (1863 – 1943), French-Swiss doctor, bacteriologist and explorer celebrated for discovering the pest bacillus and the elaboration of the first serum to cure the disease.

Created by Pierre Jacques Kubis Naval Designs in collaboration with the in-house team, Piriou Engineering, the motor yacht has been designed for world cruising in extreme conditions (-20°C/+50°C).

Delivery & departure of the m/v ASE - YERSIN for Malta

It is through one of these beautiful evenings of May, warm and sunny, the Sea offering a mirror to the stars, that the m/v ASE YERSIN gently takes the channel connecting the port of Concarneau to the high Seas.

Moment of grace, moving because unique and ephemeral, to see the hawsers to relax, then slide wet of Concarneau’s flows along the hull, to feel each one to his post, concentrated, all the senses in alert.

Feel the conjugation’s quivering of these tons of steel and aluminum, energy and work, leaving away from the dock to the orders of blades and pistons, spreading with delicacy the waves of the Cornouaille’s Seas.

It is of these moments, rare, often untold, which are engraved in the memories.

Firm order of three 80 m purse Thuna seiners for Piriou shipyards

PIRIOU shipyards announced the signature for the order for the first two units, of a new generation of purse seiner’s freezers for SAPMER, with an option for a third.

The new units of 79.5 m long and 14.2 meters wide have an innovative design, developed by the research departments of the shipyard in collaboration with the designer Pierre Jacques Kubis Designs.

The futures tunas seiners are characterized by their new hull form, optimized and ending at the front by a reverse bow. The objective is to improve the penetration of the hull in the water, which with lower resistance generates energy savings. This form also provides a better behavior at sea, improving the comfort of the crew, while increasing the capacity for storage than a tuna with a bow bulb.

This external design which integrates a platform for helicopter or a drone, intended to sign the identity of SAPMER in Indian and Pacific oceans.

These two tunas of 80 m will be respectively delivered late 2014 and early 2015 and operated in the Indian Ocean.
